Feed Our Own Backyard provides nearly 10,000 pounds of corn/potatoes to Great Plains Food Bank

FARGO (KVRR) — Three organizations are teaming up to fight hunger in our area.
For the last two years, Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley, CNH, and the Great Plains Food Bank work together on a program called Feed Our Own Backyard.
During the 2024 growing season, CNH and Farm in the Dell grew one acre of sweet corn and an acre of potatoes.
Part of that harvest went to Farm in the Dell shareholders and customers, but the rest has gone to the Great Plains Food Bank to be given out to the greater community.
In 2024, 3,779 pounds of potatoes and 4,147 pounds of corn were donated to the Great Plains Food Bank. This year the program harvested nearly 10,000 pounds worth of potatoes and corn.
Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley’s main mission is “transforming disabilities into abilities” by helping disabled individuals find work and jobs.
“To be able to have the opportunity to get it right out of the field and into the hands of Great Plains Food Bank that has such a great distribution and they’re able then to get it into the hands of consumers while it’s still fresh and still good. It’s amazing,” said Matt Larson, executive director of Farm in the Dell of the Red River Valley.
