Moorhead City Council member considers candidacy for mayor

Lisa Borgen

MOORHEAD (KVRR-KFGO) – A member of the Moorhead City Council is considering a run for mayor. Lisa Borgen says she will make an announcement in January.

Borgen represents Ward 3 and was elected to the council with 61% of the vote last year. Her four-year term expires in 2028.

Borgen is a Moorhead native and graduate of Moorhead High School. She earned a law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law and was Clay County Attorney from 1999 to 2006 when she became a district court judge. For 10 years, Borgen was a vice president at American Crystal Sugar Company in Moorhead, leaving the cooperative last year.

Announcing earlier for mayor was Kassi Sofferman, a social worker and founder of an educational support program for families. Sofferman lost a city council bid for the Ward 2 seat last year.

Mayor Shelly Carlson is not running for another term. She’s a Democratic candidate for the Minnesota Legislature.
