Local nonprofit invites community to use off-road trails

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It may be cold outside for many, but for some, this weather is no match for them to continue to get fresh air and exercise in.

“Everyone here is very passionate about being in the outdoors period. We just all happen to share a lot of the same passion for cycling, and anyone who enjoys being outside in nature and enjoying all the trails that we have here,” said Jason Pike, Board Member for FM Trailbuilders.

The Fargo-Moorhead Trailbuilders is a local non-profit group founded in 2010 by a group of off-road cyclists. The group works to build, ride, and promote twenty miles of four off-road trails through the Fargo and Moorhead area.

“We support creating all the hikeable mountain bike trails that we have in the Fargo-Moorhead area. And during the winter in our particular neck of the woods, we don’t just shut down our trails during the winter, we actually groom them for activities like fat biking, snowshoeing, like you see us all wearing here today, and also hok skiing,“ said Pike.

The group gathered at Lions Conservancy Park to do what they call a trail stomp. Using their snowshoes and hok skis, they cleared the four-mile pathway. While the trail starts off steep, these members are confident in their steps and hope more will join them.

“Come out, get outside, and help build something that their children and grandchildren can come out and enjoy,” said Laurens Robinson, President of FM Trailbuilders.
