Christmas tree pickup starts January 5

FARGO — With this year’s Christmas is over, Christmas trees are being taken down and the metro would like to remind those with live trees on the way to properly dispose of them.
In the city of Fargo, crews will be collecting trees goes from Monday, Jan. 5 through Friday, Jan. 16, as does the City of Moorhead.
West Fargo’s tree pickup starts at the same time as Fargo, but ends on January 8.
Residents should place their Christmas trees on the boulevard by 7 a.m. on their regular garbage collection day.
Trees will not be picked up in alleys.
The trees should be around 5 feet away from other objects on the boulevard.
All ornaments, lights, and stands should be removed before putting the tree on the boulevard.
The city stresses that residents should NOT put their tree in a bag.
“No plastic bags can be on the trees. No lights, no ornaments, no stands. Nothing. They’re going to go through a woodchipper, so plastic bags and woodchippers don’t really mix, so that’s why it’s got to be just the tree,” said City of Fargo Recycling Supervisor Jen Prickett.
Pickett stresses that they only want live Christmas trees out on the boulevard. Artificial trees can be put in the garbage.
