Feds freeze Medicaid funds in Minnesota and four other states over fraud concerns

WASHINGTON (KVRR) – The Trump Administration is withholding funding for Medicaid programs in Minnesota and four other states over concerns about fraud.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the program, will require the states to provide extra documentation to access the funds.
“Enough is enough. I just notified Governor Walz we will begin auditing Medicaid receipts and defer paying on claims based on fraud, waste and abuse until we can verify what is legitimate”, said Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
HHS said in a statement that it “identified concerns that these benefits intended for American citizens and lawful residents may have been improperly provided to individuals who are not eligible under federal law.”
Five states including Minnesota, California, Colorado, Illinois and New York are targeted.
The targeted programs include the Child Care and Development Fund, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Social Services Block Grants.
