Protests Continue in Moorhead
The action was originally planned to express disapproval over the Trump administration's actions in Venezuela, but took on a different tone after the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis.
MOORHEAD, MN (KVRR) – One day after a similar protest took over 24th Avenue South in Moorhead, thousands crowded the Veterans Memorial Bridge linking North Dakota and Minnesota to express their displeasure over the actions of ICE agents in Minneapolis.
This protest, hosted by Red River United Indivisible, began around 1:00 P.M. and featured signs mourning the passing of 37-year-old Renee Good alongside those calling for federal agents to leave the state entirely.
“Even though it’s cold out here, I think the massive turnout of people is awesome to see,” said Colby Montigue with the Red River Valley DSA.
Good was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross during an incident on January 7.
Law enforcement officials have expressed concern about the potential fairness of the investigation into that shooting due to federal authorities excluding the Minnesota BCA from that process.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Friday morning that their offices will collaborate on an independent investigation and share their findings with the BCA.
