PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. — Dozens of people in Pelican Rapids are voicing their opposition to ICE activity in their town and the state as a whole.
Protesters gathering on North Broadway in downtown Pelican Rapids, near the bridge spanning Pelican River.
They held signs showing their displeasure on ICE activity in Minnesota, especially after the death of Renee Good in Minneapolis last week.
Planning for this protest began on Sunday evening, after people learned of possible ICE activity in town.
According to posts on social media, ICE arrested a 43-year-old Nicaraguan man, who lived in the community for three years.
“We are out here supporting our neighbors by protesting what’s going on right now in our country and in our state,” said Nanette Albright with Pelican Rapids Resistors. The group who helped organize Monday’s protest. “We’re very concerned about our state of Minnesota. And we love our neighbors and we want to protect them.”
According to the Pelican Rapids Resistors Facebook page, the group says they “stand to preserve our democracy, the constitution, and civil society.”
