Blizzard conditions slow response to detached garage fire in rural East Grand Forks

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (KVRR) — East Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a detached garage on fire in Sullivan Township at 13926 410th Avenue Southwest.

They say it took them longer to arrive on scene than normal due to the blizzard conditions on Sunday.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Hansen says crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage.

They had the fire under control in about 15 minutes.

The fire caused significant damage to a portion of the garage with heavy smoke damage throughout.

There is an estimated $30,000 loss to the structure and its contents.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature, igniting nearby combustibles.
