Minnesota State Moorhead offers new scholarship program for area students living outside MN

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State Moorhead has announced the start of a new scholarship program for students in the metro.
The six thousand dollar scholarships are set aside for students in both Fargo and West Fargo Public Schools, and will be awarded over four years.
To qualify, students must graduate in 2026 or later and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. They must also complete the FAFSA, and enroll full-time at MSUM in the fall following their graduation from high school.
The college will also be waving application fees and charging the students in-state tuition, despite them living outside Minnesota.
MSUM representatives said that was a key part of the program – to reach students on the Fargo side of the border.
“We’re thankful for the Fargo Public Schools and the West Fargo Public Schools, and their school boards for saying, ‘Yeah, let’s do something that’s a little bit non-traditional,'” said MSUM President Dr. Tim Downs. “Because sometimes we do box ourselves into, you know, things like a state jurisdiction, when in fact, we are a region and as a region we need to serve all the people in the region on either side of the river.”
Students with grade point averages of 3.7 or higher will also be given access to reserved seats at Moorhead’s Honors Scholarship Competition Day for the change to earn more scholarships.
