MOORHEAD, MN (KVRR) – Community members packed a local pickleball venue to raise money for a West Fargo man who is battling a rare form of cancer for the second time.

Brad Lindblad was first diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma at age 23.

He fought off the cancer and has since gone on to mentor other cancer patients while having three children with his wife, Jacey.

Now 36, Brad has received the unfortunate news that the cancer has returned.

He is the sole breadwinner for his family – and, worse, health insurance doesn’t cover most of his treatment, with costs expected to fall somewhere in the $50,000 – $80,000 range.

To provide assistance, supporters organized the Smash for Sarcoma Pickleball Invitational at Courts & Pints in Moorhead.

Funds were raised through the entry fee of $100 per team, a silent auction, and free-will donations.

Those involved say every dollar counts while Brad’s family helps him fight this battle.

“It’s very rare. Sarcoma is very rare, but the epithelioid cancer that he has is even more rare,” explained Adam Sayler, MC for the Smash for Sarcoma event. “The fact that he’s going through this twice – it’s unheard of, and it’s frustrating.”
