Crews work to clear out slush and heavy snow throughout the metro

FARGO/MOORHEAD (KVRR) — Snow has returned to the region once again. With slippery roads and heavy snow, public works is working hard to clean up the mess.

“Crews have been out keeping the roads cleared off and putting some product down to prevent ice. And the mild temperatures have been helping us out also,” said Paul Fiechtner, Public Works Director for the City of Moorhead.

The City of Moorhead crews started early this morning, focusing on their primary and secondary roadways. Fiechtner said they have been monitoring the weather for the past few days to determine the best time to start cleaning the roads. While in Fargo, crews have also been focusing on similar routes.

“The crews have been out working hard, they’ve been plowing out the roadway since about seven o’clock this morning. We started off and started focusing on all of our snow emergency routes. And we have those all finished up now, and we have all of our crews in the residential zones now,” said Corey Houim, Fargo Public Works Service Manager.

While the roads have been cleared up for most main roads, Minnesota State Patrol Jesse Grabow posted on X several spin-outs and cars going into the ditch.

“We had a few weeks of warm weather and not really winter driving, if you will, and now we’re kind of back to that, where we got slippery conditions out there. What we’d ask is that the public just take time, slow down, make sure you have plenty of following distance, things like that,” said Fiechtner.

Both Fargo and Moorhead Public Works will be working throughout the day and into the night to continue as the snow falls.
