Wadena County deputy crashes while chasing suspect

LEADER, Minn. (KVRR-KFGO) – A sheriff’s deputy and the SUV they were chasing both crashed during a pursuit across two counties on Wednesday night.

The Wadena County Sheriff says a deputy tried to stop a vehicle for several traffic violations, but the driver refused to stop.

The chase entered Cass County, Minnesota, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

The fleeing vehicle and squad car both lost control and crashed on an ice-covered road near Leader in central Minnesota.

The deputy, 20-year-old Jordan Hartmann, was checked for minor injuries at Lakewood Hospital in Staples.

The fleeing driver, 51-year-old Rosanne Bauer of Albert Lea, was air-lifted to a Twin Cities hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were damaged.

Agencies assisting at the scene were the Minnesota State Patrol, Staples Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, Lakewood Ambulance, and Scott’s South Town Towing.
