WATCH: Sen. Kupec offers a sweet treat while touting Moorhead Spuds Boys Hockey history making win
ST. PAUL (KVRR) –Democrat Sen. Rob Kupec of Moorhead took to the Senate floor to brag about the Moorhead Spuds Boy’s Hockey state championship win over the weekend in historic fashion.
They were down 4-1 when they completed a stunning comeback and defended their 2025 state title with a 5 to 4 victory over Minnetonka in double overtime.
Kupec says the win goes down as a top three comeback in Minnesota hockey history, the other two owned by Minnesota Wild.
“And because we are very generous in Moorhead, we would like to share the spoils of our victory with all of you. So thanks to Sen. Ann Johnson Stewart of Minnetonka, who was defeated Saturday night and Sen. Cwodzinski there are cupcakes in the retiring room, some of which they even got to get with the black and orange sprinkles on the top,” Kupec told fellow senators in the chamber.
He ended his comments by saying they are very proud that the mascot is a potato.
