FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) —  First term Fargo City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg is jumping into the mayoral race.

In her campaign announcement posted to social media, Turnberg said she first stepped into the arena because she believed Fargo deserved common sense leadership.

She says she is willing to ask the hard questions about spending and transparency.

Her city commission term doesn’t expire until 2028.

Two other city commissioners are also running for mayor: Denise Kolpack and Dave Piepkorn.

They join Josh Boschee and Sekou Sirleaf.

Jake Coulter did not turn in the necessary paperwork on time.

The terms of Mayor Tim Mahoney, Kolpack and Piepkorn all expire in June.

There are eight candidates for two open city commission seats: Derik Arneson, Scott Brekke, Tony Gehrig, Nicole Gullickson, Aaron Hill, Anna Johnson, Chad Peterson and Jeremy Schaeffer.

Candidates had until 4 p.m. today to file paperwork for the June 9 election.

A drawing for position on the ballot will be held Tuesday at city hall.
