Update: Fargo man arrested after shooting outside middle school in Horace

HORACE, N.D. (KVRR) — All three public schools in Horace were placed under lockdown after a shooting took place in the parking lot of Heritage Middle School.
Garmonyou Wiles, a 40-year-old from Fargo, was arrested for felony reckless endangerment, felony aggravated assault, and felony terrorizing. Additional charges are possible.
“At approximately 9:46 a.m., Monday, April 13, dispatch notified law enforcement of a call for service for an adult male had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand in the Heritage Middle School parking lot,” said Sheriff Jesse Jahner, Cass County Sheriff.
Cass County Sheriff, West Fargo Police Department, Metro Area Street Crimes Unit, West Fargo Fire Department, and Southern Valley Fire & Rescue all took part in the investigation. The victim notified police that they knew the suspect, as they worked with the construction company working on the expansion of the middle school. Wiles fled before law enforcement arrived.
“We just have been in constant communication with these guys as far as what information that we wanted to get to parents immediately is to let them know that again, safety is our number one priority, and that their children were more than safe inside of our building,” said Josh Rudie, Assistant Principal for Heritage Middle School.
The lockdown was lifted around noon as all three public schools in Horace returned to normal operations. Police remained on scene continuing their investigations.
“We need to make sure that a person that would come down to a school with a firearm and hurt someone else, that we can locate that person and understand why they would do that because this has got a lot of people alarmed right now, this is not a good situation that they did that, especially coming to a school,” said Jahner.
Comfort dogs will be made available to all students at Horace public schools throughout the week.
