At least one person is wondering why a Code Red alert wasn’t issued during the search for the suspects.
It happened near Family Wellness, which has a childcare center.
While Family Wellness didn’t go into lockdown, the YMCA Schlossman, about 8 blocks away, did.
While Fargo Police were on a manhunt in South Fargo, the YMCA’s Schlossman location was taking full precaution by going on lockdown.
Scott Orn’s two daughters go to the day care and were there.
Scott Orn says, “With yesterday’s event, we actually got an email that said they were in lockdown and that the kids were fine.”
They decided to go on lockdown after they heard of the manhunt that was underway for the suspects.
Orn says he was not worried for his girls.
The Fargo resident says, “I just appreciate the communication they give and let us know what’s happening around the area. I mean I may not have known that this event was happening.”
Deputy Chief Joe Anderson says there are certain circumstances where a CODE RED emergency notification will not be sent out.
Deputy Chief Joe Anderson says, “We require someone to have to come back to a computer that has internet to craft the message and then to send it out. At that time we had most of our officers were engaged either with the home invasion or the accident which led to a canine track.”
CODE RED sends up to 60,000 notifications per hour but sending out a notification may not be as easy as you think.
Anderson says ,”Sergeant can craft them but typically in order to launch them lieutenants and above command officers are responsible to launch.”
Parents believe no matter what the occurrence their children are in good hands at the YMCA.
Orn says “Knowing that they’re keeping track of what’s happening in the area to know if they want to go into lockdown. They do fire drills and lockdown events. It’s really good.”
The YMCA says the lockdown lasted for about 30–minutes and at no point was anyone in danger.
