Preliminary autopsy reports for Grand Forks Walmart Shooter Marcell Willis have been released.
It shows that Willis died from a gunshot wound to his head, and he was intoxicated.
The autopsy showed Willis’ blood alcohol concentration was two times the legal limit for driving at 0.19 when he shot two Walmart employees.
Grand Fork Lt. Derik Zimmel said, “he was legally impaired at the time of the incident.”
According to UND forensics and autopsy services, Marcell Willis was drunk during the shooting.
But full toxicology results to determine if he had drugs in his system won’t be available for weeks.
How much did the alcohol affect Willis’ mind that morning?
“Whether they’ve consumed alcohol or not, if that’s the case then they’re probably passed out well before that level. Or if it’s someone who is a well–seasoned drinker, could probably function at that level. So it’s very difficult to determine the actual effects of that blood alcohol concentration of this particular person on this particular night,” said Lt. Zimmel.
When one question is answered in the investigation the department believes more are then created.
“I think we would do a disservice to the investigation by simply a list of things that we wanted to know once we find those things out we call it good. The investigation will take us where it takes us,”Lt. Zimmel.
Considered a marathon and not a sprint to police, there is a piece of the puzzle coming soon.
“And it takes some time to work through all of that information. I think the next reasonably thing we can say is that on the horizon as far as scheduled would be the final autopsy report,”said Lt. Zimmel.
That autopsy report could be out by the end of June.
