Construction Season: Mayor Asks to Keep Moorhead Businesses Thriving!
Commuters aren’t the only ones dealing with the pains of downtown Moorhead’s construction projects.
Businesses want to make sure their customers don’t avoid the area all together.
This construction season is arguably one of the largest construction seasons Moorhead has ever seen.
While drivers will still be able to get around downtown, streets like Main Avenue will go from two lanes to one.
Mayor Del Rae Williams worries people may avoid the area all together.
She says if you don’t go past the business, you probably won’t stop in.
Just yesterday Rourke’s Museum sidewalk was torn out making it difficult to even access the building.
“I need to get my gas, get my hardware stuff. I mean there are many reasons you go to businesses for and I’m going to make a point that I hit one every single day during construction,” says Mayor Del Rae Williams of Moorhead.
“The Rourke is more of a destination place so were not particularly worried about not getting people to come into the building but it’s just how they’re going to get into the building, it’s just going to be more of a hassle,” says Rourke Museum Volunteer, Coralie Wai.
Mayor Williams along with the Moorhead Business Association will introduce cone zone offering discounts at businesses in the construction zone.
The mayor says she’s confident Moorhead’s Dairy Queen will still keep busy, but she encourages people to stop by other nearby stores while enjoying your cone.
