Piepkorn Against City Hall Plans

Fargo Commissioner Dave Piepkorn has a new idea for the city hall project:  start over.

Piepkorn says the project has a construction cost at over $300 per square foot, comparable to a luxury hotel in Manhattan.

He says that’s a price tag taxpayers will not stand for.

Piepkorn also says building so close to the Red River in a soil sensitive area “defies common sense.”

Bids for the new city hall were opened this week and came in 10 percent higher than expected.

The building committee will reconvene next week to discuss the next step.
