Sen. Franken Pushes Bill to Support Veterans Who Worked at Nuclear Sites

Minnesota Senator Al Franken is taking action to help veterans who helped clean up nuclear testing sites during the 1970’s.

Franken and North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis have introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at getting healthcare for those vets.

Franken says many who worked on the testing sites in the Marshall Islands now have health complications from constant exposure to radioactive waste.

“These veterans got cancer and other diseases that have been linked to radiation, but didn’t get that treatment they needed. This is a huge injustice to them,” said Minnesota Democratic Senator Al Franken.

Franken says the bill currently needs to pass in the house and senate, before it can be sent on for president Obama’s approval.
