Habitat for Humanity is Asking For Your Help!
Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity is coming to the rescue for a family in need, but this time, they need your help to pull it off.
Habitat for Humanity says volunteers are the backbone that have helped the organization build more than 50 homes in the F-M area over the years for families in need.
The home located at 822 Rensvold Boulevard in Moorhead will soon be getting a full makeover.
Pete Christopher of Habitat for Humanity says compared to homes they’ve rebuilt before, this one won’t be from scratch.
“This is the first one that has been donated to us by an individual, the lady decided it was too much work for her, and she wanted to pass it forward kind of pay it forward so she donated it to us,” said Pete Christoper Resource Development and Marketing Manager for Habitat and Humanity.
The home is being donated to a family of four, and will come with a price tag – not in dollars, but labor.
“Two hundred fifty hours per adult of sweat equity, and that goes along with the repayment of the cost of construction through our zero percentage mortgage, which goes back to habitat as well,” said Christopher.
Christopher says by June this house will be completely transformed and ready to house the family in need.
Richard Jones has been volunteering for the organization for almost 20 years.
“I think that we all should give back to the community, and the people in need and I found this as a good way to do that,” said Jones.
Jones says there’s one thing that keeps him coming back.
“They come in, and it’s almost finished and they’re in tears, or has a 14-year-old girl come up to you when the house is done and give you a big hug stuff like that, it’s really satisfying,” said Jones.
The home is one of four houses the organization will be rebuilding this year, and Christopher says they can use as many helping hands as they can get.
“You can be from all walks of life you don’t have to have any construction skills necessary,” said Christopher.
Christopher says volunteers are needed for both this Sunday and Monday.
