Not A Runner? Fargo Marathon to Host First Annual “Cyclothon”

Calling all cyclists, the Fargo Marathon has added yet another race to this year’s event.

The marathon has announced that it will be hosting the first ever Cyclothon.

Organizers say the Cyclothon is another way they are hoping to attract more people to join in on the marathon’s festivities.

If you’re not a runner, and still have hopes of participating in this year’s marathon, the Fargo Marathon Cyclothon may be for you.

“We had just recently added the dog run to the week of events, and we just were talking about how the idea behind that was opening up to a broader audience,” said Mark Knutson of the Fargo Marathon.

The Cyclothon is now one of seven races the marathon is offering.

The marathon route will stretch just over 26 miles in a circle wrapping around the FM area.

The race starts at the Fargodome then runs through Harwood, Clay County, and back.

“The roads won’t necessarily be completely closed, but there will be a lot of traffic control,” said Knutson.

And for cyclist and running enthusiasts, it’s the best addition yet.

“Heck yeah, I’m very stoked about that,” said Jaci Woinarowicz who is a cyclist and runner.

Jaci Woinarowic already had plans on running the 5k, and with this news, she says she now plans on participating in both events.

“Definitely have a lot of biking friends, and a lot of running friends so for those to unite will definitely be a plus,” said Jaci.

The Cyclothon will be the kick-off event starting Monday May 16th, which she says is even better for those running Saturday’s race.

“You start going a little stir crazy if you’re not able to exercise especially being a runner, if it’s the week coming up to a race or even after, so just being able to get a little bit of exercise in, and kind of get excited about the marathon as well,” said Jaci.

Registration for the Cyclothon opened last night, and will run through May 12th.
