NDSU President Dean Bresciani Approved for Contract Extension

NDSU’s President Dean Bresciani was approved for a contract extension during a State Board of Higher Education meeting.

Bresciani will hold the position until at least June of 2018.

Some feel Bresciani has done a lot of good for student organizations.

“He’s done a really good job,” said Jamal Omar, who is Vice Chairmen of the North Dakota College Republicans. “He’s been very fair to all student organizations no matter your belief and no matter what you advocate for.”

Under Bresciani, the campus has seen a lot of improvements.

“Like with STEM or the A. Glenn Hill Building, we’ve completely redone our science program…state of the art,” said Omar.

That’s something Omar would like to see Bresciani continue.

Although the overwhelming response from students KVRR spoke with was positive when it came to Bresciani’s performance over the last few years, they do have some things they’d like to see him improve on in this next year.

“Faculty to student communication could be improved,” said NDSU Sophomore Grant Eggan.

Student Garrett Schumacher says he thinks the fail rates of lower level math classes are too high and would like Bresciani to do something to fix that.

“I think he needs to look at the teachers and what they’re doing and you know, maybe he needs to change a teacher,” said Schumacher. “Maybe he needs to switch things up. That might be what it takes or something as far as just the outline of the class.”

On another note, Omar says some students aren’t exactly happy with the way the president is appointed.

They want students to have more of a say in the process.

“Since we are paying for it, a lot of students did take issue with having a board decide this,” said Omar.

Omar said even though he takes issue with the selection process, he still approves of the job Bresciani has done thus far.

In a statement released by NDSU, Bresciani said he looks forward to continuing to work with the people of NDSU.
