Fargo City Commission Talks Refugee Resettlement Costs

Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn is in the spotlight after raising questions about refugee resettlement costs in Fargo.

He says something isn’t adding up with how much money Lutheran Social Services is claiming they spend.

We first brought you this story at the end of September when commissioner Piepkorn showed concern about how much local taxpayer money is being used on refugees, now he says he will not quit asking questions

Piepkorn first mentioned that now the audit for Lutheran Social Services is available for the public to view on the cities website, that statement was followed by conversation with fellow commissioners who are tired of refugee settlement being brought up at meetings.

They showed concern that it looks like they are targeting one non-profit.

“It was $4 million that LSS received for refugee placement last year, so $4 million…that’s a lot of money and what that is in North Dakota Vernacular: the fox guarding the hen house,” said Commissioner Piepkorn.

There was also a member of the community who spoke up during the meeting showing her concerns.
