Staying Safe when Trick-or-Treating; Let Savers Help You with Last Minute Costume Ideas!

Costumes are flying off the shelves as kids get ready to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

There are a few things to watch out for while buying those costumes and heading out to events.

There’s still time to get a Halloween costume put together.

For many, last minute changes are in order.

“I was gonna go like as a ref, but I don’t want to spend a bunch of money for a ref shirt,” Bailey Erickson of Fargo said.

With a wide selection of donated costume pieces, Savers has costume consultants ready to flesh out your Halloween ideas.

But no matter your costume or your plans, we got some tips that will keep you safe before you go out and trick-or-treat.

“Try to stay with the neighborhoods you know,” Savers community donations supervisor Crystal Kekahuna said.

Places like West Acres are hosting safe trick-or-treat events in town.

But some safety tips are all about the costume.

“Any type of masks that restrict vision is a concern, not only when kids are caught crossing the street, but also for their ability to observe what’s going on,” said Deputy Chief Joe Anderson of the Fargo Police Department.

There are alternatives to costumes with a mask.

“I’ve seen some really creative ones. They grabbed an umbrella and some stuffed animals, some cats and dogs and they pinned them to the umbrella and they were raining cats and dogs,” Kekahuna said.

Picking where you hunt for candy is also important.

Just use common sense.

“We’re definitely gonna hit up the mall, definitely a safe place,” said Shanley Seil of Fargo. “Some of the well lit neighborhoods, we’re gonna be heading there as well. Obviously checking the candy as we were always taught when we were little.”

Police say look out for older kids stealing candy from the younger kids.

They’re hoping neighbors continue to look out for the little ones this Halloween season.
