Three Injured in Semi vs. Pickup Crash in Clay County

Three people were hurt after their pickup rear-ended a semi in Clay County.

The crash happened around 3 o’clock on Highway 10 east of Hawley.

The State Patrol says a semi turned into the westbound lane and merged into the right lane when the pickup hit it from behind.

Two male children and the driver were taken to the hospital with what authorities say were non-life threatening injuries.

State Patrol troopers say at this time of year, drivers need to use much more caution while out on the roads.

“I mean, this time of season you know, the local farmers, obviously we’re a large farming community,” said Minnesota State Patrol Captain Brian Cheney. “They are really scrambling to get their work done before freeze up, so there is extra traffic out here and they do use the normal roadways just like every other driver with the exception of the interstate.”

The crash is under investigation.
