Franken Impressed by SCOTUS Nominee Merrick Garland

Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland met with Minnesota senator Al Franken, who says he’s impressed by the judge.

Franken praised Garland’s ability to form consensus opinions as the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Washington D.C.

Many Senate Republicans are trying to delay any Supreme Court justice hearing until the next president is sworn in.

Franken says the Senate needs to do its job and hold a hearing like it would for any other nominee.

“No judge who has been nominated to be a justice has been denied a hearing in 100 years, in the 100 years we’ve been doing hearings,” Sen. Franken explains. “This is, to me, unconscionable. The Senate should do its job.”

Garland is nominated to replace noted conservative justice Antonin Scalia, who died in February.
