Governor Dayton Visits Callaway; Pushes For Train Safety

Governor Dayton visits Callaway and calls for more safety precautions along rail lines.

The governor went to the site in Callaway to see with his own eyes the remaining damage from the accident.

He then went to city hall to meet with first responders, local officials and representatives from the Canadian Pacific Railroad.

There he heard experiences from emergency responders about the collision.

But he mainly focused on pushing for train safety measures to prevent future incidents.

“We don’t live in a perfect world. We’re taking steps. We’ll take more steps. The training is being provided all over the state for first responders so in this kind of situation so there is that kind of response. And they take it upon themselves,” says Governor Mark Dayton.

Governor Dayton proposed a bond bill in the beginning of the year to invest in needed infrastructure in the state.

This includes highway rail warnings, to help improve safety for trains and drivers.
