Shot That Killed Schumacher Self-Inflicted, Investigation Concludes

Cass County State’s Attorney Birch Burdick says an investigation by the State Bureau of Criminal Investigation has concluded that the man who started a shootout with Fargo police last month died of a self-inflicted bullet wound.

Burdick says agents determined that Marcus Schumacher was shot in the arm twice by police, but that the fatal shot came from Schumacher himself.

Police recovered five guns and numerous spent shell and tear gas casings from the home.

The warrant says a rifle was found under Schumacher’s body.

Burdick says the police actions were a legitimate exercise of law enforcement’s function.

Fargo Police officer Jason Moszer died in the shooting.
