Grand Forks Fire Department Unveils New Station

The Grand Forks Fire Department wants to give you a sneak peek of their new fire station.

Officials opened their doors to the neighborhood so people could take a look inside.

The new station has a video conference room, a brand-new gym and soon, faster response times, they hope.

Without the new location, response times to fires on the south end were inching upward to seven to nine minutes, well over the ideal four minute response time.

“A fire doubles every 30 seconds, so the faster you can get to the fire and get it under control, the better. If you’re getting out there in nine minutes you might have to go defensive right when you get there and there’s not change of really getting it under control,” said firefighter Andrew Emerson.

The new fire station officially opens on Sunday.
