What Do You Want in a New Rec Center?
The Fargo Park District is looking into building a new rec center in South Fargo.
The question is, what will be in that new facility?
The Parks employees are looking to the community to decide what goes in the new rec center.
They asked locals what they want to see at a public forum.
The department has also hosted numerous focus groups, with nearly 100 people giving their opinions.
So far, some popular requests have been hardwood space for activities like basketball, and ice space for skating.
The district operates 99 outdoor parks, but this would be the biggest indoor facility for the district.
Park District Recreation Specialist Craig Bjur says, “Looking at the needs of the community. Looking at what is really needed to move forward here as our city and community continues to grow, so we’re definitely trying to look at the future here and stay ahead of the growth here.”
The Parks District will spend the next six to eight months continuing a feasibility study to determine what the new rec center needs.
It’s too early to know exactly where the new center will be located, or how big it will be.
Those factors affect the cost of the project, which Park District employees say could be up to $15 million.
