GiGi’s Playhouse Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

A local non-profit is celebrating World Down Syndrome Day.
 
GiGi’s Playhouse released 321 balloons this afternoon to raise awareness about the genetic disorder.

GiGi’s hopes to change the way the world views Down syndrome.

World Down Syndrome Day falls on March 21th to signify the triplication of the 21st chromosome.

“GiGi’s Playhouse says, ‘You know what, we are rocking that extra chromosome and we are special and we’re here. And we can make a difference in the world,'” says GiGi’s Playhouse Vice President Marijo Schwengler.

They also encouraged people to wear crazy socks to show support.

GiGi’s Playhouse is North Dakota’s first and only Down syndrome achievement center.
