Carson Wentz Puts Fargo in National Spotlight
It’s not football season, but NDSU is gaining some national media attention.
ESPN took over downtown Fargo to film NFL draft pick Carson Wentz, who will be featured opening night of the draft.
In a little over a month, fans across the country will tune in for NFL draft day.
It’s a day that will attract millions of viewers and Fargo will be front and center.
Top pick Carson Wentz will be one of six top athletes featured along with their college town.
It’s a triumph not just for Wentz, but the entire North Dakota State family.
The people of North Dakota will always hold an extraordinary amount of Bison pride but come April 28th, fans will hold their heads extra high.
“We understand what we have here. It’s nice when you can tell the rest of the country all the great things that are going on here at North Dakota State,” says NDSU Director of Athletics, Matt Larsen.
Starting at six this morning, Broadway in downtown Fargo was closed to all traffic for three hours, making way for Carson Wentz.
“I think we got some really, really good cinemographic angles for the shoot and for ESPN,” says SkyScopes President, Matt Dunlevy.
ESPN reached out to SkyScopes, a drone company based out of Grand Forks, to help promote the NFL draft with some additional aerial footage.
“It’s somewhat surreal its really exciting to be a part of the North Dakota UAS ecosystem but it’s also exciting to work for ESPN and brush shoulders with people like Carson Wentz,” says Dunlevy.
“He’s a top pick in the NFL draft but he’s also just a regular student like everyone else here at NDSU and many are proud to call him one of their classmates.”
“You know he’s from Bismarck but people really like that you know North Dakota small and we all stick together and we don’t really have a pro team so this is our one shot it shows that just because we’re a small school and small area doesn’t mean we’re not talented,” says NDSU Junior, Steven Otterson.
“He is the prototypical student athlete when you think about 4.0 in the classroom, great within the community and really excels at a high level and is a leader within the football program,” says Larsen.
“The other night we were at Applebees talking about him, he pulled up on sports center and then he walked in the door all within two minutes and everybody knew he walked in right at once it’s kind of cool,” says Otterson.
While Carson is well on his way to becoming an NFL superstar, many say his small town roots will stick with him wherever he goes.
Even at this morning’s shoot, a 10 year-old boy patiently waited for Carson Wentz to sign his football, and without hesitation Carson Wentz made that little boy’s day.
