It's all part of the events leading up to the Fargo Marathon on Saturday
FARGO, ND — Kids, parents and mascots are doing their stretches and getting ready for the Fargo Marathon Youth Run.
It’s all part of the events leading up to the Fargo Marathon on Saturday.
KVRR’s Nick Broadway talked with a local family about how running is being passed through the generations.
NICK BROADWAY: I’m here with LaShai Pfeifer and I see you’ve brought your kids and you are a family of runners, is that right?
LASHAI PFEIFER: Yes, we’ve been doing this for quite a few years.
NB: Excellent! Can the three of you say your names?
MAYLEAH: I’m Mayleah.
TAYLOR: Taylor.
KELSEY: I’m Kelsey!
NB: Are the three of you excited for the Youth Run?
MAYLEAH: Yes, very!
TAYLOR: Yes!
KELSEY: I’m so excited!
NB: Is this your first time running in the Youth Run?
MAYLEAH: No, we’ve run it one or two more times.
KELSEY: I did it before, with my mom.
NB: Good! LaShai, you’ve run some marathons before in your past as well. Do you have some advice for running in the Fargo Marathon? What’s the best way to prepare for the race?
LP: I guess for me, for my training, I usually have them (the girls) alongside me on bicycles. I have to go a certain pace, otherwise they’re going to get mad at me! I do that for training. But, for race day, just relax and enjoy and take in all the adrenaline from everyone else. It certainly seems to help.
NB: Makes sense! In your case, you’ve been running for quite some time.
LP: Oh yes, since they were about two and a half is when they first started.
The Youth Run kicked off at about 6:30 at Neuman Outdoor Field near NDSU.
