Police Searching for Hitterdal Bank Robber
A suspect is on the run after robbing a bank in Hitterdal.
Police need your help in finding the man.
The say just before noon, a white man around 6 foot 2 robbed the State Bank of Lake Park in Hitterdal.
The teller and only one customer were inside the bank at the time when the man walked in with a long gun, possibly a rifle.
He demanded money and left on foot.
A K-9 was able to track him to a vehicle that left the scene.
Video from a nearby liquor store captured what is believed to be the man’s black car driving to the bank.
Police released photos from the bank security camera, unfortunately they only show the suspect from the waist down.
“What we’re asking is if anybody in that rural area saw anything around 11:40 A.M. today, whether somebody suspicious, somebody driving around town anything to help us out to give us something to follow up on,” says Lt. Stephen Landsome of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Police believe the robbery was pre-meditated. They say it’s clear he knew the layout of the bank.
The bank’s security camera still uses VHS, resulting in some poor quality pictures.
While response times can be slower in rural areas, Police believe the first squad car arrived within five minutes.
On KVRR News at 9, we’ll have more from law enforcement and hear from people in Hitterdal on the crime.
