Scammers Pretending to Raise Money for Fargo Fire Department

Scammers are targeting people in Fargo, pretending to raise money for the Fargo Fire Department.

But basically, if you get a call from someone claiming to be from the Fargo Fire Department, they’re lying.

Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says the department has gotten multiple calls from concerned citizens saying they were called by someone asking for money to help support fire victims and to buy equipment.

The chief says the department is funded through the city, and does not try to raise money from the public.

Now he wants to spread the word, to make sure no one falls victim to the scammers.

“Firefighters have a good name,” Dirksen says, “and it’s people with less than scrupulous ideals are trying to use that good name for their own benefit. “

Anyone who gets called by a scammer is encouraged to contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office.

But if you would want to donate money to the fire department, Chief Dirksen asks that you take that money and offer it to a different charity or organization of your choice.
