Honored for Saving Lives: The Value of Learning CPR

Firefighters honor two people whose quick thinking helped save lives.

Ashley Kankelfritz and Gary Jorgensen were awarded the White-Hartman Award by the Fargo Fire Department.

Kankelfritz used CPR to revive her mother after her heart stopped last August.

Jorgensen used CPR to save a neighbor last September.

The award winners say the recognition pales in comparison to helping save a life.

But they’re glad to spread the word about the importance of CPR.

Kankelfritz says, “I did what anyone would do in that situation I think and I just did what I knew and wouldn’t let her go.”

Jorgensen adds, “It was very important. Even if somebody doesn’t know anything about CPR, just go on the internet and read about it. You can get a class anyplace.”

The Fargo Fire Department encourages everyone to learn CPR and how to use a defibrillator, so that you too might be honored for saving a life one day.
