Wayzata Police Officer Hit and Killed by a Vehicle

Authorities say the driver stopped immediately and was cooperative with officers

WAYZATA, Minn. — The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a Wayzata officer has died after being hit by a vehicle.

Authorities said Officer William Mathews was hit and killed while removing debris from Highway 12.

The driver was a 54-year-old woman who officials said stopped immediately and was cooperative.

She had an expired license and a history of traffic violations.

Police are saying it could take weeks to finish this investigation.
