MSUM Fireworks In Motion to Continue Thanks to Local Businesses
MSUM’s announcement that its fireworks tradition would be coming to end may have come too soon.
Earlier this week, MSUM President Anne Blackhurst announced the school’s Independence Day celebration would not be continuing as a way to help the college save money.
Since the announcement local businesses have rallied together, and have raised more than $20,000 toward continuing the tradition.
Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams says once all the funds are raised MSUM has agreed to still allow the use of the campus.
“I had an inkling, and that’s why I asked her if it could still be there that the community would rise up to it. This should be a community event, and MSUM took a lot of it on when they don’t have their students there at that time.,” said Williams.
The city needs to raise $40,000 to keep the fireworks show going, Mayor Williams says she confident the remaining funds will be raised.
