North Dakota Tax Commissioner: Don’t Be A Victim of Identity Theft During Tax Season

Tax season is here, and the North Dakota Tax Commission wants to make you are not victim of identity theft.

Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger says over the last couple of years identity theft has become more of an issue during tax season.

He says hackers are stealing Social Security numbers, filing in other people’s names, and stealing their refund.

There is one way you can make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

“The primary goal of this season is making sure people are protecting their personal information. Also get in there early, and file as early as you can. Because if someone else has stolen your identification their going to get in there sooner than later,” said Ryan Rauschenberger, North Dakota Tax Commissioner.

Rauschenberger says in 2015 up to 900 North Dakotans were victims of identity theft.
