Casselton Standoff Ends: One Person Detained, No One Arrested

A section of Casselton was shut down as authorities looked for two burglary suspects.

Authorities were led to a house after a failed traffic stop and high speed chase.

The school was even temporarily on lockdown.

The standoff ended just before nine with a woman detained for questioning, but the two suspects were not found in the house.

Earlier this afternoon, police attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 90 miles per hour.

They decided to stop the pursuit for safety reasons, but soon police were called to a burglary involving that same vehicle.

A Fargo K–9 was brought in which eventually led authorities to a Casselton home between 10th and 12th Avenues North.

Authorities said they had to wait for a search warrant before going inside the home.

“The reason we do that is we always want to take the safest route when we do an investigation if we can do something like to gain permission from a homeowner but a lot of times we’ll take that extra step to secure a search warrant,” says Cass County Detective Joe Gress.

Authorities did make contact with one of the homeowners who was not at the house at the time.

They say at least one of the suspects inside is also an owner.

People in the neighborhood who were kept away from their houses, were allowed to return just moments ago.
