Governor Dalrymple Names January 13th Amber Alert Awareness Day

This is Amber Alert Awareness Day and Governor Dalrymple is asking people across the state to recognize its importance.

January 13th marks the 20th anniversary that 9-year-old Amber Hagerman of Texas was kidnapped and murdered after being abducted while riding her bike.

The Amber Alert was named for her.

Fargo police say the alert is an important tool when a child is abducted.

“In those types of situations we get caught in a situation where time is of the essence. So this is really just an awareness piece not necessarily for law enforcement, but really for the community that were going to do all that we can to keep our children safe,” said Lt. Joel Vettel of Fargo Police.

Since being put in place the Amber Alert has helped locate more than 700 children.
