Water Woes: City Attempting Water Main Repair in Freezing Temps
Some homes in Page, North Dakota woke up without water after a large water main broke over the weekend.
Page city officials have been working on repairing the water main since 9:30 this morning.
They say the continued cold weather has been more of a hindrance than a help.
Contractors started repairs on a large water main this morning, after a break was found Saturday evening.
Page city officials say Saturday’s below zero temperatures is what caused the break.
“What we figured happened is that it got cold, there was a crack in the street, and the cold air went down and it just broke the line,” said Jim Heidorn, Page City Official.
Heidorn says battling through continuous snow and cold weather hasn’t made the process move any faster.
“It’s just going to be a slow process getting through the asphalt, but they’re working on it,” said Heidorn.
As a way to conserve as much water as possible, residents are being asked to limit all water usage.
“So some people have water some people don’t that’s where we’re at,” said Heidorn.
Page city officials say until the pipeline is completely fixed majority of the southeastern part of town will be without water.
One local business owner we spoke to says they were glad the water main break missed their part of town.
“We heard that the water had been shut off, and we came to work, and ours wasn’t so I was very grateful for that,” said Marvin Thorson of Page North Dakota.
Thorson says he is glad the city has invested in updating its infrastructure so that during times like these, the whole town doesn’t have to be without water.
“That’s been a big plus, that they can just shut off sections of town rather than the whole town,” said Thorson.
City officials say they hope to have full water restored to the town sometime this afternoon.
Once the repair is done they plan to lift all water restrictions.
