Flight Cancellations Make Trip to Frisco Difficult for Some Bison Fans

While the NDSU Bison are preparing to battle Jacksonville State for a fifth straight national championship, some Bison fans are battling the elements trying to get to Frisco, Texas to cheer the team on.

Some fans were facing the ultimate crisis, potentially missing the game.

Tt was basically a roll of the dice for Bison fans looking to get from Fargo to Frisco.

Some flights left on time, while some airlines left passengers in limbo for hours.

Nathan Erstad’s flight to Denver was supposed to leave at 1:30. 1:30 came and went, and he was still in Fargo.

He says, “It was my understanding that that aircraft didn’t make it in.”

His flight was one of several cancellations at Hector.

Flights full of fans trying to get to Frisco.

Most of them too mad to talk to us.

They said they didn’t want to swear on camera.

“It was extremely frustrating,” Erstad says. “I remember years past. They always seemed to have problems at this time of year.”

Maintenance crews ran out of deicing fluid while dealing the heavy snow.
That’s why Delta and United had problems.

Other flights, though, ran smoothly.

American Airline’s flight direct to Dallas departed on time just after three.

“I guess they’ve got some deicer,” says American Airlines passenger Paula Jelsing. “Shouldn’t be a problem.”

Delta and United worked to help fans get to Frisco on time.

United says it rescheduled all passengers on other flights.

Delta says it’s bringing in a larger aircraft to make sure everyone gets out tonight.

Once stranded passengers say they felt better.

“There’s a huge sense of relief,” Erstad admits. “And now I think I may go up to the bar and have one,or two.

Now that flight schedules have been finally sorted out, Bison fans that were once worried about being stuck in Fargo can now focus on the important thing, cheering on their team in Frisco.

“Can’t wait,” Jelsing says. “The pep rally tomorrow, that’ll be fun.”

“They need us there,” claims Erstad. “We’ve been there four years in a row. They need me there, I’m pretty sure. Me and the other 17,000 Bison fans.”

The airport issued a warning for any fans whose flights haven’t left yet.

Make sure you check your flight status online before you head to Hector.
