Be The Match Allowing Students to Help People in Need at NDSU
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR)- Students at NDSU are banding together for people who need stem cells.
Be the Match is an organization working with the student body to help get students on the stem cell registry.
This Be The Match event was heavily inspired by a man named Jason, US marine vet and someone who needed stem cells.
Like blood cells, stem cells need to be compatible in order to be donated. Since compatible stem cells are much harder to find then blood cells, Be the Match wants to gather as many people to expand the compatibility list.
Stem cells can be used in many different ways, and saving lives is one of them. Kyan Woodruff, State President of ND Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) said, “Even though it is optional, it is something that benefits a cancer patient and for example Jason’s family.”
He also said, “ So me swabbing today will probably in return have the chance of me being his match. And so I just gave that cancer patient or Jason the opportunity of a second chance.”
To register, go to the NDSU memorial Union tomorrow from 10-3 or online at my.bethematch.org/thundar
