FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Students and families kicked off summer vacation at the Red River Zoo Friday during their “Summer Is Out” celebration, marking the first day off school with fun activities, games, and animal encounters.

Children were seen running around the park from activity to activity in order to fill out their passport card and receive a free ride on the carousel.

Organizers say the celebration is designed to provide a fun and engaging way for students to begin their summer break.

The event provides kids an opportunity to both learn and blow off some steam from being cooped up in the classroom.

“Right out here on the carousel lawn, we got our pollinator game where kids can pretend to be different pollinators, collect some pollen, drop them off at flowers. So we got a lot of different nature-related activities for folks, ” said Jess Ryans, Education Specialist – Red River Zoo.

Reporter: Can you show us what’s in your hands there? What is that?

Norie: A Flower.

Reporter: Where did you make that at?

Norie: At the zoo.

The zoo has more activities planned throughout the summer.
