Airports Might Not Accept MN Licenses As Proper ID
Minnesota drivers licenses may not be accepted identification at airport checkpoints soon.
The Department of Homeland Security denied a request for a waiver for implementing REAL ID licenses.
Officials at Hector International Airport in Fargo say they’re not worried, yet.
The government says it will give at least 120 days notice before old-fashioned ID’s will stop being accepted.
Shawn Dobberstein with the Hector Airport Authority says, “I trust that homeland security and the states will come to their senses and get this resolved. The best thing is make sure you have a passport. That’s kind of the backup plan if something were to happen, but it’s not gonna happen overnight. “
The Minnesota Legislature banned REAL IDs in 2009.
Governor Dayton hopes lawmakers will meet for a special session to lift that ban before April.
