How to prevent porch pirates from stealing your packages

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Porch pirates are a year-round issue in the U.S., but even more so in the winter months during the busy holiday shopping season. According to a study done by Security.org, 44 million people were victims of stolen packages in the past three months.

Local law enforcement suggests scheduling your shipments. Have them delivered to a secure address and ask neighbors to keep an eye out. Fargo Police say another way you can help prevent porch pirates is through the use of security cameras, which have improved over the years.

“It’s not some grainy footage where you have sasquatch walking through a forest anymore,” said Sgt. Matt Ysteboe. “You actually can identify little characteristics, little different things about these suspects. That can be really crucial in identifying who these people are.”

Fargo Police says you can report stolen packages through their online system.
