Over 2,100 submissions for Minnesota’s new state flag

MINNESOTA (KVRR) – Minnesota is one step closer in a very long process to get a new state flag. A committee has received over 2,100 submissions.

They vary from showcasing the north star to the state’s bird, the common loon.

“Lots of variations of the north star either on the seal or on the flag,” said Anita Gaul, the vice-chair of the state emblem redesign commission. “The colors emerging are dominant, a lot of people love the blue. There’s a lot of blue that we are seeing. Also, a lot of green. I do see patterns emerging as I look through them, but I haven’t gotten through all 2,200.”

The committee will meet on November 21, and the plan is to announce the five finalist flag designs. They will make the final decision after getting some public input.
