University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill, A Fargo Native, Resigns After Congressional Testimony

PHILADELPHIA (KVRR/AP) — University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill has resigned amid pressure from donors and criticism over testimony at a congressional hearing.
Magill is a Fargo native and graduate of Shanley High School.
She was unable to say under repeated questioning that calls on campus for the genocide of Jews would violate the school’s conduct policy.
The university said Saturday evening that the chairman of the Ivy League school’s board of trustees, Scott Bok, also resigned, just hours after Bok announced Magill’s departure.
Magill had been under fire from some donors and alumni this fall over the university’s handling of various perceived acts of antisemitism.
There are also calls for the resignations of the president’s at Harvard and MIT.
They have also drawn criticism for their lawyerly answers.
Students, lawmakers and religious leaders have joined forces at a temple in Philadelphia to strongly denounce antisemitism on college campuses and in their communities.
The gathering Sunday at Congregation Rodeph Shalom comes one day after Magill resigned.
